What is a Snap Tie System?

A snap tie system is a proven method for holding concrete form panels securely in position while concrete is poured and cures. The system uses a series of interlocking components — ties, brackets, wedges, and clamps — that work together to maintain consistent wall thickness, prevent panel movement, and deliver a clean, professional finish.

Whether you’re forming a residential basement wall or a large commercial structure, the snap tie system gives you the stability and accuracy you need at every stage of the pour.

Key Components

Snap Ties

The backbone of the system. Available in short end (for closer panels) and long end (for wider panels) variants, with a safe working load of 1,020 kg.

Snap Ties with Plastic Cone

Prevents concrete from seeping into the tie hole, leaving a clean, smooth surface finish once the forms are stripped.

Snap Ties with Washer

Distributes the load across the form panel, preventing the tie from pulling through and adding an extra layer of stability.

Jahn A & C Brackets

Jahn A brackets secure horizontal walers; Jahn C brackets secure vertical walers. Together they keep forms perfectly aligned during the pour.

Snap Tie Wedge

Hammered over the snap tie ends to lock them firmly in place, preventing any movement during the pour and ensuring consistent wall thickness.

Form Aligner Brace

Also known as a concrete turnbuckle, this adjustable brace fine-tunes panel alignment to ensure a level, plumb wall before pouring begins.

One Piece Waler Clamp

A single-unit clamp that wraps around the waler and secures it to the form panel, maintaining alignment and stability throughout the pour.

Double Waler Bracket

Supports two horizontal walers on each side of the panel, distributing concrete pressure evenly and preventing bulging in taller or larger walls.

How to Use Snap Tie Forms

1
Set Up Form Panels

Position the form panels to your desired dimensions, ensuring they are aligned and properly supported before inserting any ties.

2
Insert Snap Ties

Thread the appropriate snap ties through the panel holes — short end for closer panels, long end for wider walls. Attach plastic cones or washers as required.

3
Secure with Jahn Brackets

Clamp Jahn A brackets onto the snap ties to secure horizontal walers. Use Jahn C brackets for vertical walers to maintain plumb alignment.

4
Lock with Wedges & Align

Hammer snap tie wedges over the tie ends to lock everything in place. Use form aligner braces to fine-tune level and plumb before pouring.

5
Install Waler Clamps & Pour

Fit one-piece waler clamps and double waler brackets at regular intervals. Conduct a final inspection, then pour and monitor the concrete throughout.

6
Cure & Strip

Allow the concrete to cure fully. Remove the formwork carefully — snap ties with plastic cones leave a clean, professional hole finish in the wall face.

Frequently Asked Questions

Snap tie forms are used to hold concrete form panels in place during pouring and curing, ensuring the concrete wall is stable, correctly spaced, and properly shaped.

Choose short end snap ties (121mm end) for form panels that are closer together, and long end snap ties (210mm end) for wider panels. The wall size determines which tie length you need — both types are available from 152mm (6″) up to 1,219mm (48″) wall thickness.

No. Snap ties are single-use products — they are embedded in the concrete during the pour and snapped off flush with the wall surface once the forms are stripped. The other components such as brackets, wedges, and clamps are reusable.

The plastic cone prevents concrete from seeping into the snap tie hole during the pour. Once the formwork is stripped, the cone leaves a clean, consistent recess in the wall face that can be plugged or left as a neat finish.

Jahn A brackets are used to secure horizontal walers to the snap ties, while Jahn C brackets are used for vertical walers. Both clamp directly onto the snap tie and are essential for keeping the formwork aligned and steady during the pour.

Snap tie wedges are placed over the protruding ends of the snap ties and hammered in to lock them firmly. This prevents any movement of the ties during the concrete pour, maintaining consistent wall thickness throughout.

Form aligner braces allow you to fine-tune the alignment of the form panels before and during the pour. Because they are adjustable, they ensure the panels are perfectly level and plumb, which is critical for achieving a straight, smooth concrete wall.

Double waler brackets support two horizontal walers on each side of the form panel. This dual support helps maintain the structural integrity of the formwork by distributing the hydrostatic pressure of wet concrete evenly, which is especially important for taller or wider walls where pressure is greater.
